Our mission
Creative work should not wait for software installs, license keys, or a specific office computer. Designers, marketers, students, and freelancers often need to open a PSD, fix a PNG, or crop a photo within minutes — sometimes on a machine they do not fully control.
Photoemu exists to remove that friction. Open photoemu.com, load a file from your computer, and edit with a familiar layer-based workflow. No desktop package to download. No waiting for IT approval. Just a fast path from file to finished export.
Who builds Photoemu
Liton Islam
Founder · Photoemu
Liton builds and maintains Photoemu — the editor experience, documentation, and support paths. The goal is a trustworthy free browser tool for everyday photo and PSD work: open a file, edit with layers, export, and move on.
Questions about the product, privacy, or partnerships go through Contact. Bugs and broken flows can be filed on Report a bug.
Editorial standard: Guides on Photoemu are written and reviewed by the Photoemu team against the live editor. We update pages when tools, formats, or recommended workflows change — see the “Updated” date on each article.
Experience behind the product
Photoemu is shaped by real browser-editing constraints, not marketing slogans. A few lessons that show up in the product and docs:
- Large PSDs need patience. Layered documents can take longer to parse in any browser editor. We call this out in guides so people do not assume the tab froze.
- Desktop-first toolbar, travel-friendly access. Complex work is easier on a laptop/desktop; the value is opening PSD/PNG/JPG when Photoshop is not installed on that machine.
- Honest scope. We position Photoemu for everyday layers, masks, type, and export — not as a full print-prepress replacement. That honesty helps users pick the right tool faster.
- Local files, clear policies. Editing is designed around opening files from your device in a browser session. Analytics, ads, and cookies are documented on the Privacy Policy.
If something in a guide does not match what you see in the editor, tell us via Contact or Report a bug — we treat that as a documentation defect.
What Photoemu is (and is not)
Photoemu is a browser-based photo and design file editor. It is designed for practical editing sessions: preview layered documents, make targeted changes, add type, retouch images, and export results for web or social delivery.
It is a strong fit when you need:
- A free online photo editor with layers and masks
- An online PSD viewer/editor for quick changes
- PNG/JPG editing without installing apps
- A portable workspace that works across devices
Photoemu is not trying to replace every advanced print-production pipeline. If you need specialized prepress tools, CMYK proofing workflows, or heavily scripted studio automation, a full desktop suite may still be the right long-term home. For everyday creative tasks — and for opening files when Photoshop is not available — Photoemu is built to help you move faster.
What Photoemu supports
File compatibility is a core part of the product. Many “online editors” only handle flat JPG/PNG uploads. Photoemu aims for broader creative reality:
- Design documents: PSD and other layered formats such as XCF and Sketch (depending on the file)
- Raster images: PNG, JPG/JPEG, TIFF, and similar common formats
- Vector-friendly assets: SVG support for many design and icon workflows
Once a document is open, you can use layer-aware tools: rearrange stacks, adjust opacity, paint with brushes, refine with masks, set type, and apply filters or adjustments. When you finish, export a web-ready PNG or JPG, or continue iterating in the editor.
Tip: Very large PSD files can take longer to parse in any browser editor. Give the document a moment to load fully before making heavy edits. For a dedicated walkthrough, see our free online PSD editor page.

Marketers and social teams
Crop creatives, add last-minute text, resize for platform specs, and export JPG/PNG for campaigns without waiting for a designer handoff every time.
Students and learners
Practice layer-based editing concepts — masks, brushes, type, adjustments — in a free environment that does not require paid software just to start learning.
Anyone who needs a free online photo editor
If you only need to edit a photo today, Photoemu is ready: open the file, make changes, export, done.
Privacy-minded, browser-first editing
For cookies, analytics, ads, and sign-in details, read our full Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
Photoemu is designed around a browser workflow. You open files from your own device and edit in your session. That model is especially useful when you want to avoid uploading personal photos or client work into unknown third-party “magic AI” upload tools.
As with any web application, use common-sense hygiene: keep your browser updated, avoid untrusted extensions on machines where you handle sensitive client files, and export finished assets to your own storage.
